Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5-6
This verse is had had more and more meaning for me over the past few years. It is such a powerful verse. If I had to choose, this would be in my list of top 5 Bible verses. It totally sums up my attitude toward how I live my life with God.
In the big things, the not so big things, the tiny things - everything. I trust God with everything. Every single thing. My entire heart. Can I say that I don't depend on my own understanding? My own knowledge of the situation. My expertise in the area in question. No. I often do because I am human and surrendering all to God is very hard. Yet, I am getting better at this. I find myself often asking “God, what are your thoughts on this? Should/shouldn't I?”. In Jeremiah 17:9, God's’ word says that the heart is “deceitful above all things and desperately wicked”. How much more emphatic could that be? Still want to “follow your heart”? You’ll more than likely end up disappointed, hurt and confused.
Over the past few years, God has revealed Himself in my life to a point where denying His hand would be ridiculous. I just couldn’t do it. Many seemingly impossible situations, God has worked out. Not only has He worked them out, it’s almost as if He said, “This was nothing for Me, give Me something more challenging”. This is so comforting to know that although I may find a particular situation totally baffling and stressful, He can handle it all - easily.
It’s not just about tough situations either. He’s here for it all. Difficult decisions and major crossroads. You could be at a point in your life where you need to know what’s next. He has that under control. You must seek His will. What does He want for you? Where does He want you to be? Who does He want you to encounter? God puts us in places for reasons. Don’t ever doubt that the dead end job you’re in, has a purpose. God is that specific and intentional, yes He is. He directs your life and He will show you the path you need to pursue. Just trust Him with all your heart. Trust comes first.
Here’s what He says to you today:
You don’t need to know every twist and turn. I know - and that’s all the matters. Give me your hand, I’ll lead you if you let Me. Trust Me with all of your heart. Don’t follow what your heart thinks for feels, you can’t rely on your feelings. I think good thoughts toward you, to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
Pray this Prayer today:
Lord, I don’t want to follow my heart. I want to follow you and your plans for Me. Help me to seek your will for me and acknowledge You in all I do.
